a work in progress

You have to develop your
whole game to completion.
Isiah Thomas, Detroit Pistons Basketball Champion
As a homeowner, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the work of keeping a house.  Even if you have the fortune of others to share the load, it is a huge undertaking that never seems to be complete.  Just walking in the door to my home, I notice paint that needs touching up, weeds that need to be pulled, and a stray dish that needs to be washed...when is it ever complete?
In a practical sense, the answer is never...life is messy and as long as we live, we have to clean up.  However, I believe in conquering my goals...I have a list for every room in the house and what needs to be done in each...really!  Every day I try to check off one or two of those things...it all adds up.  For instance, the gardens need weeding, and at the suggestion of my co-worker, I just do a section of it at a time.  It is like the age old adage of how do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.  Sometimes it is a dance of one step forward and three children, one dog steps back, but eventually I get on top of my game.
One thing I am insistant upon...even though our homes may not be complete, we must celebrate in them anyway!  Too many times we don't allow others in because we are embarrassed by the mess...oh what would my Mother think!  Get over yourself and realize that we all have stuff in our closets or drawers!  The greatest joys in life come from sharing it with others...messy rooms and all!
