Happiness always looks small while you hold it in your hands, but let it go, and you learn at once how big and precious it is.”
Maxim Gorky, Russian playwright & novelist
One recent winter morning, our silver cups on a shelf caught my eye...they captured the sunlight as it came into the room and shined upon these treasures of the past. How I remember watching the kids hold these little vessels...which seemed gigantic at the time in their little fingers...and now, here they sit as a tribute to the passage of time and babyhood. Recalling days that seemed to drag with the monotony of routine care and cleaning for toddlers...I miss having simple purpose and focus...loving what was in the moment. This is what all those grandmas meant when they said, "It goes quickly. Enjoy it!"
These last weeks of winter seem to drag on forever in that same way...it's cold and snowy, we are yearning to open the windows to let fresh breezes in, to be free, and to savor the succulent fragrance of flowers...it will be here before we know it. In the meantime, don't miss the treasures and the moments of silver light that slip into your home. Hold these days of being inward with reflection on what matters most to you and let it shine.
