It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!
~Mark Twain, American Author
The calendar switching to March immediately set my heart leaping...spring is almost here! After many days of too much snow, I can hardly wait for warmer weather and fresh breezes so we can open the house once again! The days ahead will be flying as we have much to prepare. Here are some of the things we will be doing...most of this is routine maintenance that can improve and protect your home asset. - Wash windows and replace the screens if needed.
- Have draperies laundered and clean the blinds.
- Vacuum the vents in the house...don't forget the dryer vent which can be full of lint.
- Service the air conditioning unit(s) so when the warmer weather comes, you aren't competing for an appointment.
- Start weeding out the closets...if you didn't wear something this winter, do you really want to keep it? Make room for your spring ensemble.
- Wash the walls and the woodwork to get rid of any grime that might have occurred from the heating vents or winter traffic of boots.
- Clean out the garage, basement and attic...then either donate to charity or prepare for a tag sale.
- Replace the batteries in your smoke alarms. Check your carbon monoxide detectors as well.
- Vacuum under the stove and refrigerator (on your refrigerator: you can take that front protector off the bottom and vacuum the coils underneath for increased efficiency!)
- Run white vinegar in your coffee maker once and then clear water twice to insure you have fresh brew.
- If you have many large rugs, consider having them cleaned.
- Check the caulking on your sinks, showers, and tubs. Be proactive to prevent any water leaks.
- Turn on the water for the outside faucets, check for leaks, and inspect your hoses.
- Order seeds & make plans for your garden. Get your planters ready.
- Touch up any rusty or mildew spots on your outdoor furniture.
- Clean out the gutters and downspouts.
- Plant grass seed over the last snow...this is a great way to get free irrigation for your new lawn!
- Check your tires, lubricate the gears and get ready for a ride on your bicycle!
- Vacuum out the car, change the oil, and have your tires rotated/checked.
- Fill a tote bag with the needed snacks for those days on the run...spring sports begin real soon!
- Make an appointment to get your hair freshened...spring is a great time for a new look.
- Polish your toenails...better yet, after all this work, treat yourself to a pedicure so you have sandal-ready feet!
- Breathe! Smell that fresh air...winter is almost over!
