in search of treasure

For those who are willing to make an effort, great miracles and wonderful treasures are in store.

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of working at a consignment sale at my children's school.  Unwrapping the donated and tagged goods, the air was full of mystery and intrigue...would there be treasure in these boxes or not?  It is interesting when you consider all the things we collect in our lifetimes...consignment sales, tag sales and flea markets, which are now in prime season, are the symphonies of many artists.  Behind everything is a story...
18 cut-glass punch cups...the parties that they have witnessed, of happier times perhaps?  I like punch cups because they are a greener alternative to plastic or paper cups.  Most of all, they are a reminder of times when we considered manners and made time to sit & sip and be together.
A small crystal cut bowl with a silver rim that can serve as a cache pot for whatever I need...jewelry, small snacks, odds and ends...for a dollar...does it matter?  It is just pretty the way it catches the light.
For our next tea party...delicate patterns dancing across the handles of these silver plated pieces...I got them for a song, and when I immersed them in a bath of 1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in four cups boiling water in an aluminum lined pan... the tarnish came off, and they really came to life.  I love silver in the way that it reflects the light and color.
American white pottery...holding  my silver teaspoons for now...
And then there is the little secretary desk...another bargain...another project.   What color to paint it?  Any ideas?  Send in your thoughts...then I will keep you posted on what we chose to do.
Take a look at the sales in your area...there are treasures waiting to be unwrapped.
